Version: 6.0

MyReviewPlugin is one plugin that does surprisingly well based on our review site plugins assessment: it has all the cool and useful features, well designed, and it has plenty of neat little details that you don’t always find elsewhere. Here we’ll take a deeper look into the plugin.

Ease of Use and Installation

Two features I noticed immediately in MyReviewPlugin are One-click Full Site Setup and One-click Automatic Embedding. Once you uploaded and activated the plugin, these two features will be available to you: the former automatically installs plenty of useful plugins (Twitter, sitemaps, caching, and many more), while the latter allows you to easily place review contents and utilities on your theme without having to touch any code.

The interface for the setting pages is clearly designed with plenty of explanation to help you in making the right choices.

Support and Documentation

Every license of MyReviewPlugin comes with a lifetime technical support and assistance. They have a neat Ticket System while support is also available via e-mail and instant messengers. Every support question is promised to be answered within 24 hours, even on weekends and most holidays.

MyReviewPlugin puts its PDF documentations online and allows you to download them without having to make a purchase first. This is great if you want to check the documentation first; they have standard documentations, Frequently Asked Questions and Extra documentations for the little add-on plugins.

Generating Comparison Tables

MyReviewPlugin can generate not just one, but two different kind of comparison tables. You can have the normal horizontal tables:

myreviewplugin-horizontaltable

Or the vertical ones:

myreviewplugin-vcomp

These tables can be placed virtually anywhere on your website, and you can control their appearance in the administration area.

You can style these comparison tables further:

Or theme them:

Stylability and Compatibility with Other Themes

All reviews and the comparison tables above can be placed easily in any theme. If you have different kind of post contents (not just all reviews), you can tell MyReviewPlugin to only be active where it’s needed. It also comes with plenty of different styles for the star ratings, tables, visit site icons, and more. Finally, There’s an API option for more advanced users and developers who want to tweak the site more.

Enable User-Generated Reviews and Ratings

MyReviewPlugin adds star ratings to comment forms, effectively allowing your visitor to add their own review:

myreviewplugin-user-review

Another useful feature is the thumbs up/thumbs down on each visitor’s review, thus allowing other visitors to rate the usefulness of visitor reviews. This is similar to Amazon.com’s “Was this review helpful to you?” feature.

CSV Import

MyReviewPlugin takes CSV import seriously: it comes with its own bonus plugin, The Import Man, to deal with Comma-separated Values files importing. The plugin is designed to be as easy to use, is compatible with most free and paid databases, and it takes care of the Search Engine Optimization as well.

Google Maps

For location-sensitive reviews, you can also embed Google Maps map into your review with this plugin. Whether you input the address manually or use imported data values, the plugin will automatically show the map for you along with your review.

Review Microformats

MyReviewPlugin can format your review into two different search engine friendly microformats, hReview and RDFa. Additionally, if you’re reviewing a product, you can also use the hProduct microformat. All this is used to make your website contents more understandable to machines such as Google’s search engine, which can impact your search engine rank positively.

Post Sorting Options

This plugin has a bunch of sorting options: you can sort chronogically, by number of ratings, based on category, by weighed count or with Bayesian Weighting. All of them can be sorted ascending or descending.

Bayesian Weighting

Bayesian Weighting allows for better rating calculation that takes into account your review as the site’s editor and visitor reviews. With this you can prevent people from unfairly pumping up a certain item’s rating, resulting in more trustworthy contents.

Dummy Comments Generation

MyReviewPlugin comes with a Comment Generator plugin that can rapidly fill your website with comments. Furthermore, it allows you to automatically fetch thumbnail images from Thumbshots.com to give you screenshots for items (usually softwares) you are reviewing.

MyReviewPlugin also comes with Dr. Link, a plugin that deals with affiliate links. You can give it a keyword and it will turn every occurrence of that word on your website into links of your choice. You can make professional redirect links and cloak links as well.

Included Themes

MyReviewPlugin comes with eight different themes. Here are some demos of the themes:

For each of these themes, you also get a theme option page to tweak the appearance more.

Pricing and Licensing

There are three different licenses, both requires a one time payment:

Single Site License ($90 USD)

You are limited to one website.

Unlimited Site License ($130 USD)

You can use the plugin on any number of websites.

Unlimited Site License + 3 Extra Theme Bonus Pack ($130 USD)

For the same price of the Unlimited Site License, you can also get three more themes.

Refund Policy

You can get a 100% full, no question asked refund within 45 days of purchase. Plenty of time to play around with the plugin and see if it matches your needs.

Other Notable Features

  • Compatibility with other products and one-click upgrade from WP Review Engine and WP Review Site.
  • Thumbshots integration for automatic thumbnail images for popular softwares.
  • Two custom sidebar widgets, Recent Ratings and Top Rated Posts.
  • Optional French and Spanish localization, while also allowing for easy internationalization for other languages.

    Hi Mark,

    Hello Support,

Can I substitute a banner/clickable image in the name category of your horizontal comparison table or in the product column of your themes? My WordPress version is 3.1.3.
Would I be able to use a current theme from WordPress with your plugin?

    • M.K.

Hi Charles, MyReviewPlugin can be integrated with any WordPress theme, but it requires a bit of tweaking. It’s a little easier to use it with one of the themes that are included with it.

As for substituting product names with clickable images, I’m not really sure (this website isn’t a support channel for the plugin, actually). It’s best you contact the developer of the plugin directly.

      Hi Charles,

I am Mark Edwards, the lead developer of MyReviewPlugin. WinkPress.com isn’t an official supplier of MyReviewPlugin support but I can help you out if you email me at support@myreviewplugin.com

In MyReviewPlugin version 6, you can easily make tables that have images instead of product names by using SuperChartBoy, but if you want to do it with the core (or older version) comparison tables, I can help you to do that as well — it is a very simple modification, and I’d be glad to make it for you.

As for integrating with a WordPress theme, I’d personally recommend it. While M.K. recommended you stuck with a built in theme, I strongly recommend most customers jump right in to the Setup Embeds page and start integrating with their own themes: its very easy to do, and starting with a theme you like is likely to result in you being happy with your site. :-) If you haven’t done it yet, here’s how it works in MyReviewPlugin:

      - You pick a theme. It does not have to be MyReviewPlugin ready or modified or anything.
      - You go to MyRP > Setup Embeds, and you drag and drop the components of MyReviewPlugin (average ratings tables, post icons, visit affiliate site links, custom field tables, whateer) to the locations you want them to display in your theme.
      - You’re done!

If you have any questions about that, please do contact me at http://tickets.myreviewplugin.com/ or via email at support@myreviewplugin.com – I’d be glad to help you out with anything you need. :-)

      Mark Edwards,

p.s., M.K, you don’t have to post this, but I wanted to let you know MyReviewPlugin also includes video tutorials (something that could be mentioned in the “documentation” section) which none of the other guys do. New features that are MyRP only at this point include in-script full language modification of every single string in the script, Big Google Maps (a feature that allows you to display multiple businesses and their reviews on a Google Map), title tag embeds (add rating information to the tag), per-page control of sort orders, etc.

    • Thanks a lot for these clarifications, Mark. I’ll make sure to point them all when I re-write the section!
