How to Show a Popup on Specific WordPress Posts or Pages

It is more practical to only show popups for specific WordPress posts — maybe an individual post or a group of posts that belong to a category. You can do this with a popup plugin or manually.

With a plugin, it’s easy — you just set the options in the plugin’s admin screen. The manual method is more advanced. It involves copying the code that you get from your email marketing service provider and pasting it the relevant WordPress template file.

Using a WordPress popup plugin

Some plugins give you options to display the popup:

  • on the homepage
  • everywhere
  • on selected WordPress posts based on post ID, post URL, or category

The plugins that have such a feature are:

Popup Domination (Recommended!) gives you the option to show the popup in specific WordPress Pages or in posts belonging to specific categories.

PlatinumPopup is the most featured plugin when it comes to where to show/hide the popup. With PlatinumPopup, you can create an unlimited number of popups and specify an exact post or location for each popup. PlatinumPopup let’s you include or exclude a popup based on:
  • WordPress site section, i.e. home page, archive page, single post/page, category page, etc
  • Comma-separated list of post or page IDs
  • Specific URLs

WordPress Popup Scheduler let’s you choose to show the popup for a single specific URL only. You can’t specify multiple URLS — only one. No where else on your website will the popup show. I don’t think this is useful.
