How to Use Exit Popups in WordPress

There are two types of exit popups, the JavaScript alert box and the lightbox opt-in popup.

The JavaScript alert box type is the annoying little box that appears on some websites when you try to leave. It looks like this:

The other type of exit popup is a more-friendly lightbox popup that looks like this:

But instead of displaying the popup at pageload, you display it when your visitor tries to leave your site. The popup will be triggered when the user cursor approaches the browser back or close button.

I’ll give you a list of WordPress plugins that do the friendlier exit popup and a list of the annoying exit alert box.

Friendly WordPress Exit Popup

Popup Domination (Recommended!) is a very user-friendly and robust WordPress plugin that is capable of displaying stunningly beautiful popups. It also supports both types of exit popups — annoying and friendly. You can read the full review of Popup Domination here >>

Annoying Alert Box Exit Popup

There are two plugins that can do annoying alert box popups, Popup Domination, and Exit Rescue.

Popup Domination is described above.

Exit Rescue is a free plugin by Robert Plank, the creator of Action Popup (also mentioned above). Exit Rescue does just one thing: annoying alert box popup. You can download it here (opt-in required).
