One interesting alternative to popups that Internet marketers use is a slide-up footer opt-in bar. What I’m talking about is something like this:
There are a few different standalone scripts and WordPress plugins that do this. The most popular standalone scripts are Ultimate Footer Ad and InstantSlideUp. For a WordPress plugin, I found this gem called optincrusher. It works pretty well and it’s free!

This free plugin has its own support website with video tutorials, tips, and configuration instructions for specific email marketing service providers.
The plugin is easy to setup and use–simply upload and activate. Once installed, you can configure it in the settings page:

InstantSlideUp is not WordPress only. It would work on any site.
this is great. was looking for the typical pop-up to build an email list, but I think I like this better. Less intrusive.

Tried to sign up for the opt in crusher but the opt in page confirmation leads to a password protected site instead of to the download site that the page claims it will take you to. This is fraud at worst and a foolish mistake at best.
It’s probably just a mistake. The guy behind optincrusher is an old and seasoned WordPress developer.
