Using a Shopping Cart Plugin to Offer Discount Coupon Codes

This feature maybe important to you if you want to promote your products by offering discount coupon codes. The best shopping cart plugin in giving you the ability to manage coupon codes in your store is Shopp.

You can click on the name of the product below to view its full review.

Shopp

Shopp has extensive discount coupon codes options. In Shopp, coupons are given the more descriptive name, "promotions". You can create "percentage off", "amount off", "free shipping", or "buy x, get y free" type of promotion.

You set a start and end date for each promotion and you can create conditions where the promotions apply. You can create promotions for individual products, order amount, order quantity, and more.

Shopp

The discounts feature is called ‘Promotions’ in Shopp and is very thoughtfully designed. You can set 4 types of discounts: percentage, fixed amount, free shipping, and ‘Buy X Get Y Free’ type. You can select to apply the discount to a catalog item, shopping cart subtotal or to each cart item.

Furthermore, you can set a bunch of rules on when the discount could be applied. This is where the discount feature really shines. You can set a variety of rules, e.g. only apply a particular discount when the ‘Cart Total’ exceeds $150 and the ‘Total quantity’ in the cart is larger then 10.

The discount feature also allows you to set the promotion dates, which will enable you to create a number of promotions in advance that will automatically start and end at the specified date.

Cart66

GetShopped offers coupons feature to allow discounts to the customers. There are 3 type of discounts that can be applied – percentage discount, fixed amount discount and free shipping. You can also set start and end date when the coupon should be applied.

One of the other interesting features is the ability to add rules on when each coupon should be applied. For example, you could add a rule to a coupon which specifies that the coupon is only to be applied if the cart total exceeds a certain amount, or another rule that says that the coupon is only to be applied when the product name contains ‘apparel’. You can combine multiple rules for each coupon.

Tribulant Shopping Cart

While Tribulant Shopping Cart does support coupon codes, it's not as flexible as some of the other plugins, such as Shopp.

You can create a fixed amount or percentage discount and set an expiration date for it. And you can also limit the number of times it can be used. The discount is applied to the cart total.

Market Theme

It is not possible to offer discount coupon codes for products sold through Market Theme.

YAK

Zingiri Web Shop

Zingiri Web Shop gives you the ability to offer discount coupon codes in your online store. It also automatically creates the coupon codes for you, saving you the hassle of creating it yourself, which many times results in duplicate coupon codes. You can specify coupon prices either as a fixed price or as a percentage of the total amount (excluding shipping, taxes & handling charges).

TheCartPress

TheCartPress does not come with coupon code management. Rather you need to install their coupon and discount extension plugin to avail of the feature. Two of the plugins are
a. http://extend.thecartpress.com/ecommerce-plugins/
b. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/discounts-for-thecartpress/

WP Online Store

WP Online Store has a good and exceptionally flexible facility to add discount and coupon codes. Discounts can be applied to individual products, group of products, categories, individual customers or order total. Discounts can be set to be applied only when a certain minimum, order has been purchased. You can also provide an expiry date for a particular discount. When applying discounts to entire categories you can select to exclude particular products from the categories. In summary, my favorite discount and coupon implementation in any ecommerce plugin until now.
